Spokane's Promise
Alliance
Following the
President's Summit for America's Future held in Philadelphia in
April 1997, the Spokane delegation in partnership with HIP
(Health Improvement Partnership) staged a local summit to begin
mobilizing the community around five goals for young people in
our community.
1. A caring adult tutor,
mentor, or coach.
2. Safe places and structured activities in the non-school
hours
3. A healthy start for a healthy future
4. A marketable skill through education
5. An opportunity to give back to the community through
service
The Youth Commission is a key
player to ensuring that Spokane makes progress in connecting all
youth to the five resources. The Youth Commission is working
with Community partners and national partner America's Promise
to create increased public awareness and participation in
fulfilling the Five Promises. A Leadership Council has been
developed to guide public messages and build collaborations to
support those programs engaged in fulfillment of the Five
Promises.
It is because of Spokane’s
commitment to the Five Promises that Spokane County has been
named one of the 100 Best Communities for Young People by
America’s Promise Alliance the last three years in a row!
