TEEN GROUP – LEADERSHIP

This group of young ladies recently put together an awareness and fundraising campaign for fighting Malaria. They did this primarily at Redeemer Lutheran Church, and the money that they raised went to the Lutheran Malaria Initiative. They started by researching the malaria problem and then put together a plan to educate their church, and organize a fundraiser. Recruiting the help of a number of students and adults they made bracelets out of mosquito netting which was then given for a $10 donation. The importance of the $10 was that $10 saves a life. Lutheran Malaria Imitative (LMI) buys treated mosquito nets for $10 and distributes them to those where malaria is killing people. Malaria is the #1 killer in the world and there is a goal to eradicate the disease by 2015. In addition these award winners obtained matching funds from Thrivent a fraternal organization. All told these young ladies raised over $6800, which saved over 680 lives in countries that are being ravaged by malaria.
